Q – Tell us a bit more about your experience with the Sharks 7’s Team

My Inclusion in the Sharks 7’s side has been one of my short term goals for 2012. I have been working really hard the last couple of months returning from a severe groin injury and surgical repair. I am very thankful and excited about my rugby future in KZN. Being included in the Sharks 7’s side has been a huge confidence booster for me as I have hardly played rugby this year. It has been an amazing privilege being able to play at this level and to be surrounded by a group of extremely talented players; this encourages me to work even harder to become the best that I can possibly become.

Q – Congratulations for been included in the emerging boks 7’s Squad , tell us how this has influenced your life:

I am very proud and feel privileged to be included in the Springbok (Emerging Boks) squad after the Sharks 7’s team won the National 7’s tournament recently. The new friends I have made along the way this year have been amazing and it compels me to improve and to push the boundaries of my own limits.

Q – Tell us about your goals?

Since I can remember it has been my dream and ultimate goal in life to be selected for the Boks and to be able to proudly represent our wonderful nation in rugby (7’s or 15 man). I am confident that through channeling my energy, working hard, being focused and stepping up to the plate when it counts, I will have a chance to make this dream reality.

Q – When did you attend the IIRASA courses?

I attended the Investec International Rugby Academy a year ago. I attended the Elite Players Course in November/December 2011

Q – What did the IIRASA course do for you?

This course has opened my eyes to what it takes to become a professional player. It has been a huge learning curve and a privilege to be coached by the rugby legends and specialists that I grew up idealizing over the years. To be treated with respect and to be coached by players that have represented SA and that have been in their positions for a much longer time, I found the “positional specific” coaching invaluable, it has given me the opportunity to learn the smaller details that make the difference at top level which sets one individual apart from other talented ones. Furthermore I have learned so much about myself, how to be mentally strong and to be able to make it to the next level.

Q – Which of the coaches have had the greatest impact on your life?

The experience was incredible, the coaches that have really had an impact on me as a player and as a person were Louis Koen, Braam van Straaten, Dick Muir and Ian Mac Donald.

Q – Why would you recommend the IIRASA courses to younger players?

For development of exceptional and well balanced players that will be able to excel at the highest of levels on a consistent basis, you need good coaching. I can personally say that this course has changed my life and yes rugby specifically but also holistically. To learn from the best coaches that the game has to offer is a huge privilege and an unforgettable life-time experience.
